October 1st, 2004 - Love thy neighbour
I
have great neighbours.
Their property is always spotless - a neat, trimmed lawn in the
summer, no snow in the winter. When the fall wind drops a pile
of leaves in their front yard, it takes about...oh...two minutes
before it's all cleared up. It's great.
Really.
This morning, I was admiring the colorful flowers blooming next
door:

Pretty.
If you're into that kind of thing.
Myself, I'm a simple person. I don't need flowers to keep me happy.
It's the little things that count.
Like the grave-like mound in our front yard:
( all I have to do come Halloween, is stick a tombstone in the
middle, hide a remote controlled tape behind it and turn on a
ghoulish scream everytime a kid rings the doorbell).
Don't
get me wrong - I have no problem growing things. In fact, I grow
things without even trying.
Some people have tried to tell me that they're "weeds".
Pish.
What do they know?
It's a simple philosophy.
I don't bother my yard and it don't bother me.
Now to convince the neighbours that it pays to adopt
a common policy.
