27th, 2005 - Numbing News
Mark this day down on your calendars: February 11th, 2005.
If you happen to live in Ontario and are nine months pregnant,
do not have a baby on this day.
I repeat - keep the water from breaking. Prop your legs up on
a dozen pillows if you have to, but whatever you do, don't
go into a full-blown labour because when it comes to the
delivery, there will be NO epidural.
Ontario anesthesiologists will be on a strike on February 11th.
Personally, I think they are the most important members on any
surgical team.
But that's just me.
I don't care how good the surgeon is.
If he's waving a scalpel without the anesthesia, I'm waving goodbye.
News of the strike made me wonder about other members of the medical
profession.
It's either doctors or nurses, or in this case, anesthesiologists
that we hear about.
And yet there are health care professionals who probably have
lots to complain about too.
Think about Proctologists. Surely they get bummed out about their
jobs sometimes.
Or Podiatrists? One foot after the other, yet we never hear about
them walking off the job.
And how about Opthalmologists? Up to their eye balls in ocular
disorders.
But no. It has to be the anesthesiologists.
God help us all.
